Amazing wedding cakes

I don’t know why but I’ve always been fascinated by everything that has something to do with weddings. Not for the symbolism, or because I wanted very much to be a bride, but for all the decorations, the colors, the cookies and for all those little details that make a wedding unique.

When I start looking up a certain thing about a wedding, I just can’t stop. I’m extremely excited about everything I find and I just lose track of time.

You know that the wedding cake is also called the bride’s cake, so take extremely care when choosing it. It doesn’t matter if your guests are not pleased by the steak or the fish is not well cooked. If the cake is sensational, everything else will just fade away. When I think about a wedding, the first things that occur in my mind are the bride’s dress, hairstyle, and of course the cake.

And because I know that some of you are future brides, today I decided to show you a selection of amazing wedding cakes.

How do you propagate basil?

What do you think I did the other day? I “stole” a basil twig from a friend’s harden. Well of course I asked him before that … or at least I told him. Of course it was probably easier to go to the supermarket and buy a bag of basil seeds, but doing it this way my basil will have a story behind it. And you know how much I love stories. Kitchen gadgets

Although I try to be as organized as possible, unfortunately I gather all sorts of gadgets and accessories. It’s inevitable, I can’t help it! It’s in my DNA!
And of course there are always little gadgets that I want to buy, but I got used to think twice before buying anything. Basically I wonder if it’s worth the investment, if I will use it at least 2 times a month. If the answer is yes, I buy it right away. If the answer is no, I reconsider it.
Below I made a list for you of various kitchen gadgets that I find most useful. Continue reading »

What a real woman wants

Sometimes you men think you know what a woman wants. But most of the time you are terribly wrong. That’s because you have a completely different picture of what makes us happy.

A real woman needs to be spoiled. OFTEN. She needs to be told she’s beautiful; but even if she wants to hear a compliments when she wears a new dress, she is really happy when you tell her how gorgeous she is her pajamas, with her hair undone, no matter the time of day.

A real woman needs to be appreciated. Maybe you don’t even realize how many things she does for you. Or how many things she does to look good for you. Everything that she needs in order to be happy is that you show her that you noticed all the little things that she does to make your life easier. More than likely some things you don’t even notice out of habit, but that doesn’t mean they do not exist.

I am crazy about shoes, but not like this …

I think most women are crazy about shoes. Without the perfect shoes no outfit is complete. I love to walk around different stores in search of the perfect pair. Often I like some models, but they don’t really match anything I own. But I can’t feel good about myself until I buy them. Not always the shoes need to match the dress, but sometimes the dress should match the shoes.

Yes, I’m that crazy about shoes! But recently I came across a collection that is really … crazy! And not in the best way. I think the pictures speak for themselves and any comment of mine is superfluous. They are made by Masaya Kushino, a Japanese designer.

How to create your own QR code

Many of you may say that this post will not use you for anything. Allow me to disagree. Contrary to your expectations, you can create QR codes for anything: website, Facebook page, Twitter page, phone number or simple text.

The first QR code that I created was at work when I created my business cards. Of course it already had on it all the details, but if you scan my business card’s QR codes my contact details will automatically open in your contact list. Thus, you could just click “Save” and all my contact information (name, phone, address, e-mail, fax) is saved in your address book.

At first I thought this is not necessary just because I thought it was something extremely complicated. But other people more resourceful than I made my life easier. Now there are a lot of website that automatically create QR codes.

Napkin rings for Christmas

I always liked to have a nice arranged holiday table. But usually on Christmas my husband and I are always on the road, so I cannot set up the Christmas dinner table as I would like to. But that doesn’t mean I don’t have a million ideas. Today I will present you some pictures of various napkin rings perfect for the Christmas dinner. Of course, you can use it also for New Year’s Eve table or for any other festive dinner.

And yes, they are all made by me. In the upcoming days I will show you how to make your own. Until then, just try to imagine it yourselves. Put your imagination at work. And do not limit yourself at just what I did. Try to make your own napkin rings and the dinner arrangement will gain a wonderful festive air.

You can do it for yourself, but I’m sure some people will appreciate it if they will receive it as a gift (like me, for example). Which one do you want to learn first how to make?

Transform those big booze gift bags into small cute ones

A gift that never gets old is a bottle of wine (or Garonne, Campari, Martini – for the ladies). Of course I am not an exception. I often receive such gifts and I also give it to people who drink it.

Consequently in my house there is a drawer full with booze gift bags. Maybe you think I regift it when buying a bottle of wine for someone, but I always buy it in the last minute so I have no choice but to buy an new gift bag. And so the content of my drawer instead of shrinking it just gets bigger and bigger with each passing birthday.

This year I bought a few small gifts. You know: strong essences are kept in small containers. And I thought that than buying new gift bags, I can transform those old booze gift bags into smaller cute ones. Some may say that such a bag doesn’t cost more than a nickle, but why waste money when we have the perfect solution at home?

And because it is not hard to make such a transformation, I decided that this will be a photo tutorial. You’ll understand only from pictures, you are a smart person! Continue reading »

When you don’t have a solution … improvise

It’s not that I want to brag, but sometimes the imagination just hits me in the head. This is just what happened a few months ago when I attended a wedding. I bought a gorgeous pink dress that I could not wait to wear. The picture does not show its whole splendor, but it stoled my heart as soon as I tried it on. The only problem was it had golden straps and a waist band with colored textile inserts (yellow, green, blue and white). This combination may seem odd at first, but the designers made a bold choice and finally achieved a great product. But this article is not about that.

DIY Covered buttons

I often need to embellish a project, be it a pillowcase, a blanket or a clothing item. One of my favorite methods is using buttons. These tiny and seemingly insignificant objects can give a splash of color and elegance to many things.

Many times I was in a bit of a trouble because I have not found the right buttons. Yes, there are a lot of buttons in the market but I don’t have time to go out for hours looking for the perfect button. But one day I found the best solution: fabric covered buttons. It was a great idea and I could not explain to myself why I haven’t thought about it sooner.

You can also purchase kits to make your own fabric covered buttons, but it costs around 13 lei / 6 buttons which seems too much. My method is as simple as using the kit, but muuuuuuuch cheaper.

Places to see in Barcelona

Recently I made a getaway in a beautiful European city: Barcelona. I felt great there just wandering the narrow streets and feeling like I don’t want to come back home.

When a friend asked me how it was, what I visited and what I liked there, seeing that i was talking non-stop about it he suggested I write a post where anyone can see what you can visit in Barcelona. So I decided to follow his advice and to present a list of sights and personal recommendations.

What is a gourd?

The other day I heard this question and I did not believe it: “What is a gourd?”. I was telling a friend about a future project and she stopped me with this question. I was appalled, actually I did not know what to answer her. The problem wasn’t that I did not know what it is, but I’m amazed that some people have not heard of gourds.

Having lived several years in a campus and meet people from all over the country, I’ve heard various words that I did not know what they mean, but that’s because they were regionalisms. I did not know the term “gourd” is a regionalism …

So I decided to share this information with everyone, I’m sure my friend is not the only one who never heard of this word.

My first miniature garden

Before I got started on my mini indoor garden, I spent a lot of time documenting about it. And not because it didn’t seemed an interesting project, but because I was so excited that I didn’t want to pass anything by. And of course, as the internet is full of all the information we want, this time it helped me tremendously. I even found some advice from people who have tried a project like this and have failed. You can learn from any experience and I can only be glad that those people  have decided to share their failure with us.

So I chose to make a mini succulent garden. Besides the fact that there are a variety of succulents on the market, these plants have many benefits and are easy to maintain.

So I started  conscientiously to work on it, I bought everything I needed and thus was born my first mini indoor garden. Because I wanted to be a simple one, I decided to accessorize it with just a few small, colorful and hand-made mushrooms.

This mini garden can bring a touch of elegance, freshness and color in every corner of our lives: in the bedroom, in the living room or even in the office. They can be also a great gift idea for those special people in our lives: mother, grandmother, aunt, mother-in-law, etc. I definitely know who I’ll do my next mini garden for.

What do you think about my mini project? I invite you all to try it.

DIY Hair stick from a pencil

Last weekend it was a friend’s birthday. We laughed, we danced and we had a great time. So great, that the host forgot she had a gorgeous hair style and decided to pin her hair in a pencil.

She was not the first person I saw doing this, and it seems a huge evidence of her creativity.

Unfortunately I cannot pin my hair like that because mine is thin and slippery. But I decided to decorate several hair  sticks o because I think they make ingenious gifts. Continue reading »

About FIMO

To my surprise, not many people had heard of polymer clay. I won’t give you the definition of polymer because it’s very hard to explain, but all you need to know is that the commercial polymer clay, which is used in jewellery, it’s a paste-like play-doh. But this has something different from a normal dough: in certain conditions, it hardens until you get something like plastic consistency.

They are of many kinds, but in our country you can find: 10601268_821201847913900_290375242_n Continue reading »

I am too lazy

How to pass level 165 in Candy Crush Saga

For some time I started playing Candy Crush Saga. Yes, I know it’s for kids. Yes, I know it’s stupid. But one day a friend of mine wrote on his blog a pamphlet about this game and he just made me curious.

I never though about it as a hard game, but look at me now: I am stuck on level 165 for 2 weeks. To be fair, I haven’t played it so much lately, but I know how stressful it can be not being able to pass on to the next level.

So I started thinking what to do. This level is 3 times harder than any other level we’ve been through so far

  • There are present all 6 colors of Candy Crush, not just 4 or 5 as before,
  • There are 4 chocolate factories that needs our attention,
  • We have to destroy 99 candies of one color  blue.

I sat there and I played it and I kept on thinking how could I pass it. With every life I lose I found more tricks that help me. Now that I managed to pass on to the next level, I decided to share with you the moves that I think helped me a lot : 165 Continue reading »

Salt in our food

I think all Romanians have read the story “Salt in food” by Petre Ispirescu . Over time I forgot this story, but when I started cooking I remembered it and started to analyze it in terms of a housewife.

I admit, I never put enough salt in my food. Which is somewhat better than to put too much, so everybody can season it’s food. But if you want to be called a good cook, you have to flavor everything exactly as it should.

Have you noticed that all the recipes have salt in it, even desserts? Haven’t you wonder why? Continue reading »

Kitchen labels

Several years have passed since I bought some spice jars from Ikea and I can say they successfully reign in my kitchens. They are a very simple way to keep your kitchen organized. I think you are also sick of tons of bags for which you never find a right place and that break or get wet before finishing the content. It’s true, these jars take up more space but I like having everything within reach.

And because they looked ugly with my old handwritten labels, I decided to make my own collection of labels.

DIY mini flags

The first time I saw these little flags was during high school, at a friend’s birthday. They were the flags of various countries, they didn’t fit in the picture but I stared at them absolutely fascinated by how beautiful these decorations were.

Since then we have seen it everywhere and somehow it has lost it’s charm. It’s part of the landscape and … that’s about it. But they are trivial just because everywhere you look it’s the same pattern.

So I thought: if they are so simple, wouldn’t be fascinating to have such flags for various occasions? Well, they probably already exists. But why spend money on something you could do it yourself?

And because Valentine’s Day was just around the corner, I decided to make some for this occasion.

How to clean your microwave

Many say that it’s better to not use the microwave because we can get sick. If we were to live by everything we hear, our lives would be chaotic. I couldn’t live without my microwave, especially as I use it not only to heat the food, but to cook it also.

If you are a clean freak and you have time, you can clean the microwave every day.
